Why the Portuguese hate the Spanish

Image
Hey everyone. You must all be wondering why the title of this post is so specific and has a very strong word - hate - in it. Well, this post is just about the cultural differences and the rivalry that my country has with Spain and how it makes us feel. All in all, we love Spain. Portuguese people love going to Spain for holidays and we really enjoy pretending we speak spanish (Did you know we have our own version of Spanish you know? It’s called Portunhol!) Whilst we love going there for holidays, we absolutely cannot stand it (99% of the time) when spanish people come over to our country. We love the way they bring money to our country and try to help our economy by bringing their whole families for holidays, but it gets a bit ridiculous whenever we go over to Spain. It is all fun and games until the moment that we try to go to a restaurant (or anywhere really) and they pretend they cannot understand what we are saying. My country prides itself on being very polyglot, it means w...

I feel bad

Just the other day, I was at work and I was getting asked random questions by passengers. I was starting to get annoyed when an older lady came up to me and asked me “Excuse me, do you know where I can buy some lipstick?” My mother raised me to be a person that respects her elders so I calmly told her a few places that she would be able to find lipsticks. I watched her walk away but soon my attention was caught on a few customers that I had to serve. They were nice and I did my best to match their level of ‘niceness’. Time went on and about fifteen minutes later, I saw a figure approaching me. “Excuse me, do you know where I can buy some lipstick?” It was the same old lady. I tried to tell her again the places that I had mentioned before, but she just looked very confused. She ended up nodding and saying she knew where Duty Free was, and started walking away. She walked slowly. Her figure looked fragile and I wondered how she had gotten here in the first place. Was she goin...

M.R. #3 Camp Rock

Hi all, I am back again with this segment in this blog. I was recently going through the movie section in Amazon Prime and I found out that I have spent around £8 on Camp Rock a couple of years ago. So I thought: I could watch this movie or waste that money . With that in mind, I decided to sit through the whole movie and relive my childhood as I jammed along Shane Grey and Mitchie Torres. So this will be a review on what I remembered the movie to be compared to what it actually was 10 years later (!!). Right so, here we go! The movie starts with Mitchie trying to pretend like she doesn't know how all these brochures for this amazing music camp found their way into her Mum's cooking/cleaning appliances and her Mum says that camp's too expensive for them so that would be impossible for Mitchie to go. Been there, done that. It takes until Mitchie comes home from school and work to hear the news that she is "GOING TO CAMP ROCK". The only downside to it is t...

How do people sleep at the airport?

Just as you read in the title of this post, I am wondering how people sleep at the airport. This is something I never understood but it happens so often that it is impossible not to comment. For over two years now, I have been working in airports. I have been witnessed people who shop until the last second of their boarding time and missing their flight. I have witnessed people who sleep in the seats as they wait for their gate information. I once witnessed someone who came over to my shop and asked one of my colleagues to wake him up. And I have witnessed people who missed their flights altogether because they slept through their alarm as they waited for their gate information. This just makes me wonder how can people do this? Is it such a common thing to do? Not just the sleep but how carefree people seem... Back when I was working at JD Sports, I was serving two men that were doing their last bit of shopping. As I helped them find what they wanted, they told me that this was...

News Update!

Hey everyone! I know, I know... Long time no write... How have you all been? Good, I would hope. Longingly coming by the blog and waiting for an update or a new post... But you got nothing. Absolutely nothing. Well, since we last spoke, I was telling you about the wonders of going to the cinema all by yourself and the fantastic watch that Tolkien was. Now, around 5 months later I am here to tell you that I have been waiting for a few people to go watch Hustlers... How the tables have turned. In these past few months, I have been a little bit busy. I went to Portugal in June and then, the day after I came back I started working at Skinny Dip! Ever since I started working here, I have learnt so much. I have been in doing as much as I can to improve myself and the store and still keep on top of everything else. One of the main things about me that you should probably know is that I am extremely competitive and I get bored quite easily. This combination makes me try finding new way...
