M.R. #3 Camp Rock

Hi all,

I am back again with this segment in this blog. I was recently going through the movie section in Amazon Prime and I found out that I have spent around £8 on Camp Rock a couple of years ago. So I thought: I could watch this movie or waste that money.

With that in mind, I decided to sit through the whole movie and relive my childhood as I jammed along Shane Grey and Mitchie Torres. So this will be a review on what I remembered the movie to be compared to what it actually was 10 years later (!!).

Right so, here we go!

The movie starts with Mitchie trying to pretend like she doesn't know how all these brochures for this amazing music camp found their way into her Mum's cooking/cleaning appliances and her Mum says that camp's too expensive for them so that would be impossible for Mitchie to go. Been there, done that.

It takes until Mitchie comes home from school and work to hear the news that she is "GOING TO CAMP ROCK". The only downside to it is that she has to help her Mum out in the kitchen as she is going to be catering the camp - which Mitchie is absolutely fine with at first. Let me just tell you, if I ever did what she did my Mum would never let me go.

In her teenage mind, this is the only way she will ever be famous (even though she is incredibly talented - she sings, writes lyrics, plays piano as well as guitar) so she packs her bags and as they get to the camp, she starts feeling a bit out of place as she notices how wealthy most of the other kids are. This makes her feel bad and want to pretend to be someone else (more about that in a minute).

Meanwhile, we learn that the famous Popstar Shane Grey has been acting like an idiot and is being forced by their agent and band members to go to Camp Rock as an instructor. This makes him extremely upset as he feels like he is too good for it. So his band mates leave him in camp where he is chased by teenage girls who are absolutely hysterical as they see him walking by the lake. (I mean I get it but still -- rude!)

Cue the most important moment of the movie. Now, Mitchie was left feeling like shit, as most teenagers do, and she starts playing one of her songs in a piano and sings it in a very melancholiac way.

The movie carries on with Mitchie getting closer to Shane and lying about her Mum, that is until she is caught by Tess Tyler (the girl that can't live without being the best at everything) and it is revealed that Mitchie is actually a liar.

In the end, Mitchie and her friend Caitlyn end up being forbidden from competing on the Final Jam and end up singing after the last contestant.

Cue the moment where Shane realises he was obsessed with Mitchie's song and that she was actually the cool person he thought she was (before she was caught lying). Shane had been looking for Mitchie all along and he finally found her, so they end up singing the iconic duet "This Is Me/Gotta Find You".

Overall, this movie is ridiculous, why would I have ever enjoyed watching it for the plot itself I have no clue. Mitchie is ashamed of who she is and all she wanted was to be popular, it's like her dream to be a rock start flew out of the window when she heard that Tess was the daughter of a famous singer that she admires. I remember being so impressed with Mitchie and how talented and sarcastic she was but I surely do wish now that she has a bit more pride in herself and trusted her talents a bit more.

If I were her, I would have been posting covers (or even the original songs) on YouTube, MySpace and all that sort of thing. Mitchie had everything to be a star right at the begining of the movie. But I guess she wouldn't have met Shane Grey otherwise and she did cause a lot of changes on him so I am kinda glad she went to camp rock and managed to turn him into a cool guy.

If you have any thoughts about this movie let me know in the comments, I would love to know what you think about it now compared to what you thought 10 years ago.

See you next time!
