M.R. #1 -- LIFE AS WE KNOW IT
As I desperately try to think of possible content for this blog, I have decided to start a section in this blog, mostly because I have too much free time and a lot of movies on my watchlist on Netflix.
This is:
Movie Review #1 -- Life As We Know It
Alright so, this will be me reviewing a few movies. I decided to use the knowledge I have, mix it with my criticism and a little bit of just a girl with an opinion watching movies.
The movie follows the two main character were step up by their friends to go on a date. Their date doesn't work out as they never even make it to the restaurant. After that they keep on having to see each other during their friend's wedding, as they become godparents of their friend's child. All was alright and bearable until their friends die and they become the guardians of their godchild.
The movie is very good at depicting two people who can barely stand each other but have to live together and are forced to raise a child together. Altogether, the character of Messer does a very good job at being the funny character and Holly is simply the type of character that takes to balance him out. She's funny and smart, just as much as Messer is, the main difference between them is that Messer is mostly inappropriate with his sense of humour.
Raising Sophie seems believable and it shows how much they care about the baby girl. The casting of baby Sophie is absolutely amazing. The baby is very cute - I mean, of course!! - and she is very good at reacting to what is happening around her.
Overall, I think that the storyline is very good and it is believable, as well as how the actors portrayed their characters.
If I could change anything though, it would be Holly's relationship with Sam, the paediatrician. Sure I understand why she would interested in him at first. But then as time goes on and Holly becomes closer to Messer it would only make sense for her to start her relationship with him before she goes out with him.
I do not know why Holly and Sam get to go out and she enjoys it, they kiss but then as soon as she gets herself with Messer they have sex. It all happens within a few days of each other. Honestly this either makes Holly a player.
Another thing that I don't really like is how Holly's attitude changes towards Messer as soon as he lands a deal in Phoenix. I mean, yes I understand why she would do it. She is angry and annoyed that he is leaving her and Sophie. However, she jumps on Sam's boat as soon as that happens.
Messer is actually a great character who balanced his life out and became a responsible adult who was in charge of the life of a little girl.
Sure, Messer wouldn't have made it if he didn't have Holly, but the fact that he was the one who changed the most and sacrificed the most and still managed to fall in love with Holly despite her trying to sabotage it means a lot.
Yes. Sophie is the best character as she plays the most important role in the movie and without her those two characters would have never gotten together.
I just want to mention it one more time. Holly was actually a bit of a slag as she started sleeping around and trying to replace Messer as soon as things got messy. She made the choice of sleeping with him and then she just ignored it and (I highly doubt) that she mentioned having sex with Messer to Sam. Holly is not fair with Sam (or Messer for that matter) but things end up working alright for them in the end.
They do make a great couple but I think Holly needs to work a little bit more on her relationship skills to make the story a bit better. With that being said, I just want to make it clear that I think Katherine Heigl did a fantastic job as playing Holly. I only disagree with the writer's choice to make her storyline as it was.
Apart from that, it is a good movie. Easy to watch and without much happening that could make it confusing. It wouldn't be on my list of favourite movies but I would watch it again if I saw it was on.
Hope you enjoyed the movie (and if you haven't watched it yet well you don't need to watch it after I literally spoiled the entire movie for you -- s o r r y ! !)
Let me know in the comments if you've seen this movie before and what you thought about it. Do you agree with my opinion on Holly's character?
See you next time!
