Welcome to October!
It is that time of the year again so here I am.
Today is October 3rd. (Hey hey it's a Wednesday on October 3rd! - and on Wednesdays we wear pink; yes... that was a Mean Girl's reference)
That is however besides the point. I am always excited when it comes to the month of October.
Is it because it's my birthday at the end of the month?
Is it because it's my father's birthday? My cousin's birthday? My friend's birthday?
Is it because it's the beginning of Fall?
Is it because it's almost Halloween?
Who knows really?
I am not that invested in finding out the real reason why I love the month of October. Maybe it's because so many things happen during this month that leave me feeling well excited about it. I am always very excited to see all the things stores sell just before Halloween. That one night where everyone can dress up and not be judged. Maybe it's because I used to go to Anime Conventions and I really liked to see people dress up as their favorite characters (as well as mine, really). I'm not really sure what makes me feel the most excited.
I absolutely love watching all those Disney Channel Halloween movies (Halloween Town am I right?). I absolutely love the special episodes TV shows make for days like Halloween and ThanksGiving. I love watching The Nightmare Before Christmas. October is when the Spooky Scary Skeletons video (and the lyrics really) comes into my mind and doesn't leave for days.
I am not one of those people that wait the whole year to carve a pumpkin or have a Pumpkin Spice Latte and just post their hipster pictures on Instagram. Not saying I wouldn't do it if I were into either of those things. All I am saying is that October is the month where everything changes. You start changing your wardrobe and put most of your Summer clothes away. The jumpers start to come out and soon enough you're snuggled all comfy in your oversized sweaters with lots of layers to keep you warm.
Since I moved to the UK, this feeling has only become stronger. I am always excited to be going around in my comfy clothes. I love feeling all excited about how I am wearing thick leggings under my trousers because honestly, people are freezing and I am all warm and comfy. #ProudToBeWarm #TwoLayersButHappy #WarmthAboveAllElse
One of my guesses, however, is that I love the way everything happens in October. October is the stepping stone that takes us to what I am really excited about.
C h r i s t m a s.
Yes, you read that correctly. I absolutely love Christmas time. From the frost to the cute winter clothes. From the Christmas spirit to the warm mugs of tea. I love the feeling of Christmas.
I absolutely love the Christmas lights and the songs... Everything really. Christmas means people get together and (almost) nobody judges you for watching those cheesy Christmas movies.
Christmas is Home Alone (and watching The Nightmare Before Christmas again.)
Christmas is happiness. At least to me it is.
I may not have been home for Christmas for three years now (bring on the 4th one!) but I still feel happy and excited to see the family pictures and the ten minute WhatsApp video call. Christmas is the perfectly carved turkey my father cooks. Christmas is my brother's smile when he gets that gift he wanted. Christmas is when my mother gets upset because my grandma overdid it with the gifts again. Christmas is sleepovers and friends and love.
As I said Christmas is happiness. But we are still in the beginning of October. There's still 28 more days until I start the countdown for Christmas (because really, November 1st should really be Christmas 1st).
One day at a time. We are nearly there, but let's take it slowly and focus on the now...
It's October 3rd.
Enjoy these Spooky Scary Skeleton times we are about to enter.
