Menstrual Cups Are Our Friends!
Since I first got my first ever period, I've been wondering how I can save money instead of spending it all the time on pads. I've had this solution in my mind for a while but I kept on being too scared to try it.
That was until the other day.
I decided to go through with this idea after asking one of my best friends for advice. I remember years ago when we started Driving School and we used to go to the toilet together. I remember the way she used to tell me how amazing the cup was and honestly she was right.
She told me, again, how great the Menstrual Cup is and it got me thinking. Is it really worth it? Does it hurt? How does it work?
Let me tell you everything that I found out.
The advices my friend gave me were very useful. From the easiest way to put the cup in to how to clean it. She was a real life saver and I am eternally grateful for her.
1) It is not that hard to put the cup in. I struggled for the first day and a half. I kept feeling like I couldn't put it in properly and I kept on giving up halfway through to start over.
2) This reminded me of the first time I ever had my period. Everything was uncomfortable for a few days. Every second I worried if I was leaking and there would be a red patch on my clothes. But then, you gradually get used to it.
3) Using lube is a life saver. So, this was an advice that Carolina gave me (thanks boo) and it actually works. Sure, it is a bit awkward to walk around with a bottle of tube in your hand as you go to the toilet and then back out. And it's even more awkward to do that in front of your boyfriend's family.
4) Using a cloth pad (Yes, I am also using them to help me save money) by itself, aka without the cup, is not enough on the heavy days. I decided to just have a cloth pad on for a whole afternoon. This was just on the second day of my period so I wasn't used to putting the cup in yet and I kept feeling uncomfortable with it on so I decided to just not use it for a bit.
It wasn't so bad, except that when I went to the toilet, the pad looked worse than a Quentin Tarantino movie. I definitely learnt from that and will not be making the same mistake again.
5)Answering the three main questions I had before:
Yes, it is worth it. You save so much money when you are able to reuse products
Kinda, it does hurt when you don't put it in properly. Apart from that though, it is alright.
It is easier than wearing a pad because you just leave it in for a about 5 hours (I haven't tried leaving it there for longer than that yet), empty it and clean it, and you're ready to put it in again.
So here's my final review on it.
Definitely will be using both a Menstrual Cup and a Cloth Pad again. They helped me save so much money and the only thing that is standing in my way is getting used to the Cup 100%. Everything makes it so much worth it. And it's not just about me. With these products I am also helping the environment.
So there you go guys!
I will be uploading a new post soon with my New Year Resolutions, so look out for it.
In the meantime, have a Happy New Year!
